SUPER-JUMBO SOFTWARE RUNS FOUR OPERATING SYSTEMS AT THE SAME TIME WITHOUT ANY PERFORMANCE LOSS.

SAN FRANCISCO, California, April, 2011

Always Innovating is pleased to announce Super-Jumbo, a single image which provides four operating systems fully optimized for OMAP devices: AIOS (standard Linux OS), Android Gingerbread v2.3, Ubuntu Maverick 10.10, and ChromiumOS. Already available for the Touch Book and Smart Book families, it is now freely available for a wider range of OMAP devices, such as the Beagleboard family. This software release allows to run these four operating systems, natively and side-by-side, without any performance loss.

"Based on the experience of the Smart Book, we realized that it was necessary to be able to run several operating systems at the same time, without reboot, and with maximized performance", said Grégoire Gentil, founder of Always Innovating. This initiative is the starting point of the growing trend of hardware versatility, currently followed by the computer hardware industry: for instance, an Android phone can now transform into a wide-screen Ubuntu laptop computer as demonstrated by the Smart Book. Instant OS switching capability is key to this kind of new hardware experience.

Always Innovating underlying technology is taking the best of both competing worlds: virtualization and multi-boot. Virtualization is easier to use whereas multi-boot is more efficient. "But we were convinced that with the growing need of optimizing device resources, no trade-off was any longer possible.” said Gentil. The Always Innovating team developed a system allowing the user to painlessly hot-switch at runtime between several operating systems, all running natively on the device.

Super-Jumbo is the outcome of two years of efforts by the Always Innovating team in the embedded hardware space. It can be freely downloaded at https://www.alwaysinnovating.com/beagleboard/. "The Open Source community is an amazing movement, and while we are leveraging the work of thousands of developers, we considered that it was normal to give back. This is why the technology behind Super-Jumbo is fully open source."

Whereas Android and Ubuntu versions have already been released by several projects for a growing number of OMAP-based devices, this is the first time ChromiumOS is made available for this platform. Always Innovating is also working on many other cutting-edge hardware and software innovations, available on demand to dedicated partners under NDA.
