Current version of software of the Touch Book and coming Smart Book is 2011-03.a, and it includes AIOS (sync with Angstrom as of June 2010), Android v2.3 Gingerbread, Ubuntu Maverick, and a build of Chromium OS v0.10. Those operating systems can be selected at boot or can be natively launched from AIOS.

Until Summer 2010 and the announcement of the Smart Book, the focus was really AIOS, which is based on Angstrom/Openembedded. AIOS is now quite exhaustive and has probably reached a maximum with its full Gnome environment, Qt4 applications, OpenOffice 3.2, OpenJDK Java 1.6, and all browsers possible from Firefox, to Fennec, by Midori, or Chromium. Its maintenance will be obviously continued. Nevertheless, it's an heavy environment which is probably suitable in "netbook" mode when consumers want to access "all" applications, but less enjoyable in "tablet" mode.

That's why we put more efforts till now on Android, which has the advantage to offer the best user experience and the best browsing experience, especially on the coach ;-)

As for Ubuntu, we will continue to update this operating system by sticking to the Canonical repository and doing minimal patches.

ChromiumOS has just been added to the official image though it still needs some work and polishment to do.

Last, we are hoping that Meego will represent an interesting and viable alternative though we have some doubts since the strategic turnaround from Nokia.
