[14:13] <josch> mu3en: ah turned out when i searched your nick i did it on irc.oftc.net instead of freenode :)
[14:14] <josch> and my year long presence in this channel got only recently interrupted because i turned off my irssi due to a switch from screen to tmux on my server :)
[14:15] <josch> mu3en: btw i now have the armhf port running here :)
[14:15] <mu3en> hey
[14:16] <mu3en> just updated deb and updating e17 from svn
[14:16] <mu3en> illume keyboard still not inputting to apps
[14:16] <mu3en> and need to give the connman routine another go
[14:16] <mu3en> probably also needs building from source, looks like the naming is old in the deb
[14:18] <mu3en> any progress josch?
[14:19] <josch> well what i have is a script that builds me a tarball i just extract to my SD card
[14:19] <josch> it doesnt include much - just xserver and stuff
[14:19] <mu3en> works well
[14:19] <josch> it does
[14:19] <josch> the special thing about my script is, that it doesnt need any root priviliges to run
[14:20] <josch> you only need sudo once you copy it on the sd
[14:20] <josch> that pretty smooth
[14:20] <mu3en> it is
[14:20] <josch> that's pretty smooth
[14:20] <josch> i'm using multistrap (as opposed to cbootstrap) to create it
[14:21] <mu3en> i think that makes it tough to adapt to ubuntu
[14:21] <mu3en> i did try that too
[14:21] <josch> i found some bugs in multistrap - the maintainer (neil williams) is fixing those right now
[14:21] <josch> ubuntu will be fine - only other distros will not
[14:21] <mu3en> i had some errors when i tried to modify
[14:21] <josch> the disadvantage of multistrap is, that you cant use it on non-debian derived systems
[14:22] <josch> when you tried to create a ubuntu rootfs with multistrap or when you used multistrap on ubuntu?
[14:23] <josch> in the end it doesnt really matter how it is built
[14:23] <josch> but about the installed system:
[14:23] <mu3en> using your script but substituting ubuntu sources
[14:23] <josch> as i said i didnt have any luck with xserver-xorg-video-omap3 or omapfb and that sucks
[14:24] <mu3en> haven't tried yet
[14:24] <mu3en> but the update means i can install them at least
[14:24] <mu3en> although if that's same as you i guess it will fail
[14:24] <mu3en> if the keyboard and connan worked, it would be ideal
[14:24] <mu3en> *connman
[14:25] <mu3en> can't figure out the keyboard thing, but the connamn thing should work
[14:26] <mu3en> are you just removing the relevant xserver-xorg-video via aptitude and adding the other?
[14:27] <josch> no
[14:27] <josch> this is my current script
[14:27] <josch> http://mister-muffin.de/p/6cIC
[14:27] <josch> still contains a number of hacks
[14:27] <josch> they will vanish as multistrap improves
[14:27] <josch> as you can see i install a basic armhf system with xorg and mplayer
[14:28] <josch> armhf is of course only for testing it right now
[14:28] <josch> people will use armel for the short term
[14:28] <josch> and armhf only later when it became an official debian arch
[14:29] <mu3en> xserver-xorg-video-fbdev
[14:29] <josch> yes
[14:29] <josch> because that's the one that works out of the box
[14:29] <mu3en> okay, so you've built it all three ways
[14:29] <josch> three ways?
[14:29] <mu3en> and only that works
[14:29] <mu3en> xserver-xorg-video-omap3
[14:29] <mu3en> xserver-xorg-video-omapfb
[14:30] <mu3en> oh
[14:30] <josch> i tried xxv-omap3 and xxv-omapfb but they only produce a blank screen
[14:30] <josch> the are supposed to work on the beagleboard
[14:31] <josch> but this probably boils down to the tb using a different lcd
[14:31] <mu3en> would be my first reaction
[14:31] <mu3en> think the ubuntu used fbdev anyway?
[14:32] <josch> the ubuntu build by ai uses fbdev as well
[14:32] <josch> so the ai guys seem to be aware of the issue
[14:32] <mu3en> right
[14:32] <josch> this of course means that video will not work
[14:32] <josch> but i dont care about that
[14:32] <josch> and will not bother myself to make it work
[14:34] <mu3en> so you just run mplayer?
[14:34] <josch> mplayer -vo x11 -vf scale -zoom -ao null
[14:34] <josch> yes
[14:35] <mu3en> but without video
[14:35] <josch> video does display
[14:35] <mu3en> or is that just compositing disabled (e has that issue)
[14:35] <josch> and as long as it's small resolution it works
[14:36] <josch> what does not work is fullscreen that scales to the full screen size
[14:36] <mu3en> okay
[14:36] <josch> so i can playback youtube and stuff alright
[14:36] <josch> but only with their original size
[14:36] <mu3en> what about color depth issue?
[14:36] <josch> didnt see any
[14:37] <mu3en> there isn't a color depth set by default it seems, so e will not enable compositing
[14:37] <mu3en> requires 24/32 color mode
[14:37] <josch> if compositing is this 3d thing - why would you need it anyways?
[14:37] <josch> or how would you make use of it smoothly with no video acceleration?
[14:38] <mu3en> not sure, it is enabled by default under the illume setup
[14:38] <mu3en> and can be software rendered
[14:38] <mu3en> even on old hardware
[14:38] <mu3en> but in this case fails because of color depth
[14:38] <mu3en> and indeed there are no modes reported
[14:38] <josch> i see
[14:39] <josch> well i didnt look into e yet
[14:39] <mjr> it's not this 3d thing, though gpu acceleration is quite useful with it
[14:39] <josch> i didnt want to bother with possible bugs before the stuff is in debian unstable
[14:39] <mu3en> right
[14:39] <mu3en> and the input and connman are basically just that
[14:41] <josch> since my time is scarce i will not putting effort into making it work
[14:41] <josch> i can wait until it is fixed in the repository
[14:41] <josch> for now i'm happey to have Xorg and touchsreen working
[14:41] <josch> and wlan
[14:42] <josch> i dont need much more than that
[14:42] <josch> my other occupation is with the openmoko hardware - there you learn to be satisfied with less :)
[14:42] <mu3en> grin
[14:43] <mu3en> i just need a working onscreenkeyboard
[14:43] <mu3en> the connman is a bonus i can wait for
[14:43] <josch> i will use barebone wpa_supplicant anyways
[14:44] <mu3en> that works good for now
[14:44] <mu3en> but i need an input system to issue commands
[14:45] <josch> sure
[14:45] <mu3en> and without illume it's tricky
[14:45] <josch> well you always got a detachable keyboard ;)
[14:45] <mu3en> actually i don't, so i have to use my lovely usb one instead
[14:45] <mu3en> but then i might as well use another machine
[14:45] <mu3en> grin
[14:46] <josch> you only have the tablet part?
[14:46] <mu3en> yes
[14:46] <josch> wow that's hardcore :D
[14:46] <mu3en> grin
[14:46] <mu3en> we. i have tc1100 so this was really specific use only
[14:47] <mu3en> and illume really works well, at least the ubuntu version
[14:47] <mu3en> the keyboard is baffling, will have to check out on #e
[14:48] <mu3en> maybe this latest svn build will fix
[14:49] <mu3en> hard to fnd documentation otherwise
[14:49] <josch> true
[14:49] <mu3en> feel it should be an X level input setting that isn't by default in debian build
[14:49] <mu3en> jsut not sure how to cross check it with the ubuntu build
[15:00] <josch> mu3en: so you are from switzerland? at least we are in the same timezone :)
[15:01] <mu3en> near geneva right now
[15:02] <josch> if they accept me i'll be in zurich for my masters in two months ;)
[15:03] <mu3en> nice in summer
[15:04] <josch> going to bed now
[15:04] <josch> cu
[15:04] <mu3en> g'nite
[15:04] <josch> n8
