[3:52] <polto> hi all
[3:54] <polto> Mrkva, I missed my boot parameters following http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/DSP_video . after the sed part the reboot did not worked, I have the AI logo on black screen and that's all.
[3:56] <Mrkva> polto: well, that's quite unfortunate
[3:56] <Mrkva> you can try putting u-boot.bin and boot.scr on the SD card
[3:56] <Mrkva> http://alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Booting
[3:56] <Mrkva> if it won't work than serial cable
[3:56] <Mrkva> :)
[3:58] <polto> ok
[4:01] <polto> thanks, will try it later today.
[4:01] <polto> for the cable I?do not have it on me and I?am in the mountains on vacations.
[4:21] <Mrkva> oh, and by the way - are there any patches to support DSP for any normal media player? (vlc, mplayer..) I really don't want to pull a half of gnome with my system

[8:18] <polto> Mrkva, I do not know, I wanted to start by testing with gst

[8:52] <Mrkva> okay, cross compiling X... now the real fun begins
[8:52] <MatthiasF> using gentoo ?
[8:55] <Mrkva> well, I'm using gentoo on the system where I'm right here. but not as the future system on the TB
[8:56] <MatthiasF> OE then ? or crosscompiling from scratch ?!
[8:56] <Mrkva> from scratch, of course :)
[8:56] <Mrkva> well, some patches from LFS, some from OE
[8:56] <Mrkva> by the way, any suggestions on lightweight office suite?
[8:57] <MatthiasF> abiword ?
[8:58] <MatthiasF> why do you crosscompile from scratch ? don't you think it would be easier using gentoo ? (especially if you're already using it)
[8:59] <Mrkva> well, I'm thinking about this. (abiword & gnumeric). I only hope there won't be any gnome dependencies
[8:59] <Mrkva> MatthiasF: for fun? :)
[8:59] <MatthiasF> I don't find fixing other's build system especially fun
[9:00] <Mrkva> well, you learn quite a lot about building a system :)
[9:00] <MatthiasF> but if you find that fun, using gentoo you could write ebuilds so others don't have to it
[9:00] <Mrkva> ah, and by the way - anyone running a KDE4 on touchbook?
[9:00] <MatthiasF> I tried it
[9:01] * Martix (~martix@4.177.broadband3.iol.cz) Quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[9:01] * Martix (~martix@4.177.broadband3.iol.cz) has joined #touchbook
[9:02] <MatthiasF> It was running fine, but I had some configuration issues
[9:03] <MatthiasF> KOffice is very lightweight compared to OpenOffice :)
[9:04] <Mrkva> well, I was trying to build a gentoo for touchbook. but you know - something pulls python as a dependency, python pulls python-updater, python updater pulls portage
[9:05] <Mrkva> and you end with quite a bloated system
[9:05] <MatthiasF> I have a gentoo with Qt under 256MiB (not squashfs-ed)
[9:06] <MatthiasF> and you can easily add python to your squashfs exclude rules
[9:09] <MatthiasF> and a gentoo system is much easier to maintain/update than something hand built
[9:09] <Mrkva> yeah, I've realized it when I saw the modular x.org :)
[9:12] <MatthiasF> the only system I could imagine building from scratch, would be using only Qt/Embedded and no other deps.
[9:13] <Mrkva> well, first I have to strip AI kernel a little bit
[9:14] <MatthiasF> you're not compiling your own ?
[9:14] <Mrkva> MatthiasF: well, vanilla still don't have a proper TB support
[9:15] <MatthiasF> and there is no patchset ?
[9:15] <Mrkva> latest for 2.6.32
[9:15] <Mrkva> but I can use AI sources and just reduce their config
[9:15] <Mrkva> :)
[9:16] <MatthiasF> and you expect to save much ?
[9:17] <Mrkva> well, I have to compile my own anyway... because I'll try to boot from NAND. And I need to kick out the initramfs
[9:17] <Mrkva> so why not dig a litle bit deeper?
[9:20] <MatthiasF> I'm not really familiar with the lowest levels. but I don't think kernel size is significant :)
[9:21] <Mrkva> well, for me it is. I really want to fit to NAND :)
[9:22] <MatthiasF> but the kernel is probably only a few MB
[9:23] <Mrkva> every MB counts
[9:24] <Mrkva> I only hope there won't be much problems with uclibc
[9:28] <MatthiasF> and you expect to be running a desktop with that ?
[9:28] * amacgregor2 (~amacgregp@CPE00222dcb0a53-CM00222dcb0a4f.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[9:31] <Mrkva> MatthiasF: yes?
[9:32] <MatthiasF> you know it's a library for embedded system which probably doesn't implement many features used by desktop applications ?
[9:34] * Noume (~Noume@d189085.adsl.hansenet.de) has joined #touchbook
[9:34] <Mrkva> MatthiasF: We'll see
[9:35] <Mrkva> but yes, I know it's a minimalistic (=micro=u) c library
[9:38] <MatthiasF> I don't know how much time you have but I would first build a working system ("premature optimization is the root of all evil")
[9:39] * snlemons (~snlemons@c-24-62-250-238.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) Quit (Quit: This computer has gone to sleep)
[9:40] <Mrkva> not much. so I don't want to waste time on building with glibc and then recompiling system again with uclibc
[9:40] <Mrkva> but you can be correct. As I said, we'll see

[18:21] <Mrkva> oh, and by the way
[18:25] <Mrkva> anyone encountered an issue where top battery capacity reports something between 50 and 90% and the value changes randomly?
[18:25] <Mrkva> and btw, the batteries are Li-Ion or Li-Pol?
