[2:35] <mtemmerm> ello
[2:36] <mtemmerm> just got qemu running the sdcard image, but after loading kernel, nothing happens
[2:37] <mtemmerm> i get a black qemu window, but no ai logo - however when i eventually ctrl+c the process, the qemu window enlarges and shows the logo briefly before dying
[2:37] <mtemmerm> any ideas
[2:37] <mtemmerm> ?
[2:41] <mtemmerm> i'm using the (unofficial?) march release
[2:41] <mtemmerm> 2010-03.a
[2:44] * phcoder (~phcoder@hg-public-dock-236-dhcp.ethz.ch) Quit (Ping timeout: 276 seconds)
[2:48] <Aard> can you use the virtual serial consol?
[2:53] <mtemmerm> you mean in the qemu window or in the host terminal?
[2:53] <mtemmerm> because the qemu window just stays black
[2:54] <mtemmerm> brb
[2:55] <Aard> the serial console to your qemu instance. don't expect anything but serial access to the emulated image to work
[2:56] * acks demands the touch screen work!
[2:56] * Aard touches acks with a branding iron
[2:56] * acks 's forhead now reads 'Aard'
[2:57] <Aard> oh, sorry, that was a touchscream.
[3:01] <Mrkva> well, if I run TB in qemu on my regular laptop, will it have a touchscreen?
[3:02] <acks> Mrkva: that's what I'm demanding! :D
[3:03] <Mrkva> acks: let me know when you get it working :)
[3:03] <mtemmerm> lol
[3:04] <mtemmerm> Aard: so no X?
[3:04] <Aard> I'd like to know, too. got a notebook for testing something else, but which has a touchscreen on the final device. I'm constantly touching the screen when testing
[3:04] <Aard> mtemmerm: with some luck I guess you might get output, but as far as I know neither mouse nor keyboard work, so it would be pointless anyway
[3:05] <mtemmerm> Aard: ok, so the serial access should be available in the host terminal where i started the qemu process?
[3:05] <mtemmerm> or do i hook into that in another way?
[3:06] <Aard> I have no idea, I don't use it. it's basically only useful for testing binaries in the touchbook environement -- and far that it's easier to setup binmft-misc for arm, and chroot into a touchbook filesystem
[3:08] <mtemmerm> too bad... i would like to set up a from scratch system and eventually use E17 so gui output would be nice
[3:09] <mtemmerm> Aard: you mean binfmt?
[3:09] <Aard> yes
[3:09] <mtemmerm> never used it
[3:11] <Aard> quite cool, you just hook up qemu to binfmt for arm-binaries, and then you can execute arm-binaries from your shell just like native binaries (given it can find the appropriate libraries)
[3:12] <mtemmerm> will have to do some reading then :)
[3:15] <mtemmerm> grr... arch doesn't have binfmt-arm available, only for aout
[3:16] <Aard> :)
[3:17] <mtemmerm> well... guess I'll start with crosscompiling a custom kernel then
[3:17] <mtemmerm> gonna be quicker than emulating
[3:27] <mtemmerm> btw, got another question
[3:28] <mtemmerm> if i understand correctly, there's an x-loader on the NAND, which loads all the rest of the SD?
[3:28] <mtemmerm> but then there's 128MB of NAND, right? is that used for anything else?
[3:28] <mtemmerm> seems that it should be faster than the SD
[3:29] <Aard> it's not used for anything else, but if you try to use it you can mess up things quite seriously, so don't do it if you know what you're doing
[3:29] <Mrkva> mtemmerm: 256MB :)
[3:30] <Mrkva> and I really considering putting some basic system to it
[3:30] <Mrkva> afk
[3:30] * Mrkva (~Mrkva@94.230.144.7) Quit (Quit: leaving)
[3:30] <mtemmerm> seems a bit like a waste of bootup speed, no?
[3:31] <mtemmerm> 256MB should be able to contain a basic system with gui
[3:32] <mtemmerm> Aard: indeed, if the initial loader gets overwritten for instance, that would brick it... does the board have a jtag interface?
[3:32] <Aard> yes
[3:33] <Aard> so, unless you know how to reflash such a system using jtag -- don't try it.
[3:33] <mtemmerm> then it should be recoverable
[3:33] <mtemmerm> i unbricked my gp2x like that a few times
[3:33] <mtemmerm> but that had a cradle with jtag connector
[3:35] * Mrkva (~Mrkva@94.230.144.7) has joined #touchbook

[14:04] <Mrkva> darthscsi: there's a schematics available on the AI website
[14:04] <tommd> they have a link for requesting that.
[14:04] <darthscsi> I didn't see it on the wiki
