[4:02] <Corsac> darrent: if noone answer, usually noone knows and/or noone's here :)
[4:02] <Corsac> darrent: you may want to wait for the day on US west coast
[4:02] <Corsac> you'll find more people awake (and especially gregoiregentil)
[4:12] * bandwidthcrunch (~quassel@122.166.104.245) Quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[4:14] <Meiz_TB> As my TBs hinge fell apart again i decided to solder the 12A battery too the top part and leave the keyboard home today :)
[4:15] <Meiz_TB> on-screen keyboard isn't a pleasure to use but i like my new tablet-alike device
[4:27] <darrent> corsac: Thanks, I'll try again later...
[4:35] <_koen_> Meiz_TB: what did you do to make it fit?
[4:37] * Meiz_TB (~Meizirkki@padedu-62-165-142-146.phnet.fi) Quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)

[5:50] <martinh> Meiz_TB: interesting. a usb keyboard/mouse would work well attached to that.
[5:50] <martinh> actually. . .a docking station you can drop the tablet into is probably a pretty good idea.
[5:51] <Meizirkki> yup
[5:51] <Meizirkki> The original keyboard can still be used
[5:51] <Meizirkki> i just took it out of the big case
[5:53] <martinh> I wonder if gregoire could have such a thing made. just a base with power & a few usb ports for keyboard & mouse. the tb already has the connector it would need for that.
[5:53] * mcr (mcr@wlan204.sandelman.ca) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[5:53] <Meiz_TB> I'm planning to make some kind of screen protector + kickstand
[5:54] <martinh> the other thing I need to start mucking with is making synergy work on it via bluetooth. so I can use it at work where we have a horribly partitioned off wifi setup.
[5:54] <Meiz_TB> though the screen seems to be invulerable too scratches
[5:54] <Meiz_TB> synergy?
[5:54] * Meiz_TB googles
[5:54] <Meiz_TB> ah
[5:55] <martinh> yea. that.
[5:55] <martinh> it would be very nice for keyboardless setup like you've got now.
[5:56] <Meiz_TB> btw, a whole day in use / schoolbag and not a sigle scratch on the screen..
[5:56] <Meiz_TB> My n810 screen was really easy to get scratced
[5:56] <martinh> interesting.
[5:57] <martinh> yea. I've had touchscreen devices for over a decade now (newton & palm). the first thing they all get is a screen protector.
[5:57] <Meiz_TB> yah i still thik i need some kind of cover for it
[5:57] <martinh> my new android phone got one before it was even fully charged.
[5:57] <Meiz_TB> aww
[5:58] <martinh> I wonder if they make screen protector sheets big enough for it.
[5:58] <martinh> er. . .it got a screen protector before it was fully charged. I had one device with a scratch and realized I NEVER want that again.
[6:00] <Meiz_TB> The last thing I want is a transparent piece of platic in front of the screen though. I prefer some kind of case/textile cover
[6:00] <martinh> try it. I've never had a problem with them.
[6:01] <martinh> I put 'em on all my devices.
[6:01] <Meiz_TB> I have tried and wated em
[6:01] <Meiz_TB> s/wated/hated/
[6:02] <_koen_> Meiz_TB: what trick did you use to make the big battery fit?
[6:02] <Meiz_TB> _koen_, well, it didn't fit so it's _outside_ atm :P
[6:02] * robclark (~robclark@nat/ti/x-dtrvxhynhntgonew) has joined #touchbook
[6:03] <Meiz_TB> I'm planning to modify the back cover so it fits but for now it's outside
[6:06] <Meiz_TB> Separating the big battery from the keyboard part was scary job btw
[6:06] <martinh> where did it fit in the tablet part?
[6:06] <martinh> I think we all want pictures of how you did that. :->
[6:07] <Meiz_TB> sec
[6:09] <Meiz_TB> *where the hell is my camera...?*
[6:11] * craigevil (~thouartgo@76.249.22.201) Quit (Quit: leaving)

[6:16] <Meizirkki> Installing Chromium from lucid on a Karmic system segfaults the whole thing.. :(
[6:17] <_koen_> Meizirkki: I tried to seperate the battery in the top part and punctured the liner (with a credit card) by accident
[6:18] <_koen_> Meizirkki: so I'm thinking about putting the bottom battery in the top part
[6:18] <_koen_> which would fit if the USB and SD slot weren't there
[6:18] <Meizirkki> pics of my setup: http://picasaweb.google.com/meizirkki/Modifications#
[6:19] <Meizirkki> aww the bast pic is blurry
[6:20] <Meizirkki> 7.5 hours of battery life so far with this new setup btw
[6:20] <Meizirkki> I barely got 7 with the old setup btw
[6:22] <Meizirkki> I was never able to even turn my TB on without the keyboard part attached before...
[6:22] <_koen_> does anyone have partnumbers for the batteries?
[6:25] <Meizirkki> part numbers?
[6:25] <Meizirkki> There's H55100200 and 09F17 on the big battery
[6:25] <Meizirkki> dunno if you are looking for that
[6:26] <_koen_> no google hits on that
[6:27] * _koen_ already tried
[6:27] <_koen_> I suspect the 09F1X is the production date
[6:34] * Meiz_TB (~Meizirkki@bbwirelessgw2-fee1dc00-2.dhcp.inet.fi) Quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)
[6:38] <Corsac> Meizirkki: chromium runs fine then?
[6:39] <Meizirkki> Corsac, When i add lucid repo and install chromium (on my Karmic rootfs) everything in fine until reboot
[6:40] <Meizirkki> s/in/is/
[6:40] <Meizirkki> when rebooting, mountall fails or something and kernel panics
[6:41] <Meizirkki> but that's not really chromiums fail whatever i install from lucid breaks
[6:41] <Corsac> Meizirkki: I meant chromium os, sorry
[6:42] <Meizirkki> ah, i haven't tested that
[6:42] <Corsac> oh, so the screenshot is ubuntu+chromium?
[6:42] <Corsac> or ubuntu mobile or something?
[6:43] <Meizirkki> no there's no chromium at all
[6:43] <Meizirkki> it's ubuntu + LXDE
[6:43] <Meizirkki> +lxlauncher + kvkbd + nm-applet :)
[6:43] <Meizirkki> the web-browser i use is midori
[6:46] <Meizirkki> chromium OS would be interesting though
[6:47] * snlemons (~snlemons@c-24-60-77-165.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) has joined #touchbook
[6:47] <craigevil> lxlauncher is nice, i use it on my eee, much easier than scrolling through menus
[6:49] <craigevil> what happened to having fennec? is it not ready for regular use?
[6:50] <Meizirkki> Final version just got released
[6:50] <Meizirkki> But WebKit wins in speed comparrison, so..
[6:52] <craigevil> just need to tweak it :) , i have tried opera, midori, arora, uzbl, chrome, nothing beats firefox on my desktop or on my eee, just ordered TouchBook the other day
[6:53] <_koen_> midori, chrome, uzbl and arora are all webkit based
[6:53] <Meizirkki> Nothing beats Chromium IMO
[6:53] <_koen_> albeit different forms of webkit
[6:54] <craigevil> uzbl is nice, since it can be ran without using a mouse, but its still pretty much alpha
[6:54] <Meizirkki> Chromium + Touchscrollplugin + AdBlock = Perfect. There's not even a stupid menubar taking space (which is good on 600px height screen)
[7:04] <FIN__Master> So you guys have wlan working properly in ubuntu?
[7:04] <FIN__Master> Mine works for a few minutes and then disconnects :S Wpa and open
[7:05] <Meizirkki> weird
[7:06] <FIN__Master> i had working wlan earlier but in ubuntu included in 2010-01.b it has problems
[7:08] <Meizirkki> you are using the "comeswith" ubuntu?
[7:09] * Meizirkki has build up his own messy version
[7:11] <FIN__Master> i didnt understand the question :) Im using the default ubuntu. But the earlier version I used was with rootfs I built in karmic myself

[11:20] <Meiz_TB> But i don't know really. I'm using completely different partition setup

[12:30] <Sn0wman_Desk> I just spend 12+ hours building an AI-image and it was over ~40GB of stuff when it ran out of space on the virtual hard drive. Is that size normal?
[12:36] <tommd> Sn0wman_Desk: Using the OE tree on git.ai.com? Yes, that is normal.
[12:37] <tommd> It took up something like 60GB for me - thank goodness HD space is cheap.
[12:37] <Sn0wman_Desk> alright but if the SD is only 8GB and only 256 of RAM, how does it compress it to be useable on the TB?

[12:45] <tommd> Sn0wman_Desk: Many intermediate files are created in the process of compilation that aren't needed on the end device. (object files, partial static libraries, shared libraries, unused programs built due to incorrect dep lists). This is normal in software development.
[12:46] <Sn0wman_Desk> ah alright, this is my first project that I've gotten involved with so thanks for the info

[14:24] <martinh> it's sounding like no one. have you asked on the forums?

[14:37] <Sn0wman_Desk> gregoiregentil: the hardware was finalized when shipped correct? There haven't been any changes for newly shipped TB's?
[14:38] <martinh> It would be great if new ones will have 512M. that's the one thing that keeps hampering me from doing what I want.
[14:38] <Sn0wman_Desk> well that's what it says on the home page
[14:38] <martinh> because I would like to always keep a browser open and that's what just chews up memory.
[14:38] <martinh> yea. i saw. but hadn't heard anything about it.
[14:39] <craigevil> webpage says : Updated hardware with 512MB RAM
[14:39] <Sn0wman_Desk> I wonder if you can get an "upgrade" or something and send in your old TB
[14:39] <Sn0wman_Desk> well I remember gregoire saying that the hardware was finalized when the first ones shipped

[14:40] <Sn0wman_Desk> yah true.
[14:40] <martinh> leaving me with the other one for using as a tablet around the house.

[14:44] <Sn0wman_Desk> hehe great... alright thanks anway. Charging now and hopefully will actually do it this time
[14:46] <Sn0wman_Desk> does the newest AIOS have a sane build-env?

[20:30] <Sn0wman_Desk> I'm bitbaking my first file and there are over 450 tasks to do when I only have one bitbake file. Anyone know why? Does it have to compile a bunch of tools during the first baking?
[20:39] <tommd> Sn0wman_Desk: Yes
[20:39] <tommd> Sn0wman_Desk: What are you building?
[20:40] <Sn0wman_Desk> trying to build a preidictive text application
[20:40] <tommd> Called?
[20:40] <Sn0wman_Desk> presage
[20:40] <tommd> Oh, and make it work with cellwriter!
[20:40] <Sn0wman_Desk> hehe
[20:40] <tommd> It would be nice to have a combination of the two.
[20:41] <Sn0wman_Desk> well i'm not sure if my programming aptitude is that high up yet
[20:41] <Sn0wman_Desk> are those in the angstrom repo?
[20:41] <Sn0wman_Desk> is that* (cellwriter)
[20:43] <tommd> Sn0wman_Desk: Yes, it is.
[20:43] <tommd> Sn0wman_Desk: Its already on the AIOS image.
[20:43] <Sn0wman_Desk> I might have to check that out
[20:43] <tommd> always has been.
[20:43] <Sn0wman_Desk> oh
[20:43] <Sn0wman_Desk> even better
[20:43] <tommd> just not in the menu
[20:44] <tommd> Funny - I thought that was somehow common knowledge but I've been seeing people not know it - perhaps gregoire should add it to the Accessories list.
[20:44] <Sn0wman_Desk> dammit... my stylus broke on like the second day I had my TB
[20:44] <Sn0wman_Desk> that'd be a good idea
[20:44] <tommd> Sn0wman_Desk: Get some nintendo DS styluses - they are great for the TB.
[20:45] <Sn0wman_Desk> sounds like a plan, eBay?
[20:45] <tommd> Probably - or Amazon.
[20:45] <Sn0wman_Desk> ah alright thanks for the idea
[20:45] <tommd> you can get them in a normal store but they charge like 2 dollars each (and its just a strip of plastic)
[20:45] <Sn0wman_Desk> hehe I'm not that rich :-P
[20:46] <tommd> http://www.amazon.com/Piece-Stylus-Multi-Color-Nintendo/dp/B000TZI2FQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1265172324&sr=8-1
[20:46] <tommd> 26 cents each
[20:46] <tommd> I think shipping will be the killer
[20:46] <Sn0wman_Desk> ah haha
[20:46] <Sn0wman_Desk> alright thanks

[21:22] <Gary13579> am I the only one that has a gigantic hard on atm
[21:23] <Gary13579> ... jesus, wrong channel.
[21:23] <Gary13579> (well, at least this channel is OMAP based heh)
[21:24] <Sn0wman_Desk> rofl
[21:24] <Gary13579> sorry!
[21:24] <Sn0wman_Desk> hehe np
[21:24] <Gary13579> but, this thing looks amazing
[21:28] <tommd> And amazingly not yet for sale. Yes, I look forward to seeing dual core ARM chips. No, it hasn't happened yet and when it does the x86 followers will be using 4 or 8 cores and actually believe that its somehow necessary.
[21:30] <Gary13579> well, of course it's not for sale, but just the thought of it is simply amazing. more cores isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just incredibly overrated for 90% of PC owners
[21:31] <Gary13579> since I multitask several intensive programs at the same time, I wouldn't dream of having a desktop with under 4 cores.
[21:31] <Gary13579> but most people will barely use a single core, let alone 4 or 8.
