[9:00] <bofh__> hmm on the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 (despite the rude way in which it was posted). Interesting they replicated even the coloring to some extend (red top cover, black rubberish inside lining). Interesting that it has a 128 GB ssd (that's going to be pricey). Not familiar with the "snapdragon" qualcomm cpu, nor the intel CULV cpu. How are they on battery life? To me the biggest negative (witht the limited info provided) is that it is windows based, no idea if th
[9:00] <bofh__> ere is ANY linux support for "snapdragon" or "intel culv". Definitely has a more polished look to the exterior though.

[9:40] <merp> yay. Networking is greatly fixed in 2010-01.a over 2009-12.a. Both WEP and WPA worked smoohtly using only the Networking GUI config tool (instead of having to fiddle with settings in command line config files). and it correctly remembered the settings upon reboot, instead of resetting.

[9:44] <merp> and switching into tablet and 3d touch interface modes actually works now instead of crashing/locking up every time yay!
[9:48] <merp> ugh ,the doubleclick window titlebar (disappears) bug still exists though. video playback seemssmoother so far.
[9:50] <gregoiregentil> bofth__: Great! But bandwidth is a problem (and will be more when I will advertise really the new image)
[9:55] <merp> also tablet battery tracking still out of whack. The keyboard battery monitoring widget seems to work now, but the tablet monitoring for widget is N/A, and in /sys/class/power_supply/twl4030_bci_battery/uevent is still all over the place (keyboard uevent still looks good so far).

[9:56] <merp> The bash environment tab command line completion is slightly off. If I use tab for a directory, it doesnn't include the final "/" I have to add itmanually.Even though there is not a file there with the same name. Shall I file a bug report on that?
[9:59] <merp> and does the xfwm4 doublleclick title bar disapppears bug need just an x config file tweak, or is it more a C coding issue?

[10:05] <gregoiregentil> merp: It's a bug in gtk+
[10:06] <gregoiregentil> a conf file could perhaps remove the functionality (so that it doesn't crash - but no maximization in such case)
[10:06] <bofh__> gregoiregentil, in the upstream provider then?
[10:06] <gregoiregentil> bofh__: you mean for gtk+ bug? yes
[10:07] <bofh__> yes. ok.
[10:08] <bofh__> I guess a kludge, is I could create a simple script that detects when that crash happens, and automatically runs the export DISPLAY=:0; xfwm4 & each time it happens. at least that way I don't keep having to run it manually.
[10:08] <bofh__> until it's properly fixed in gtk+ upstream.
[10:10] <gregoiregentil> in /etc/xdg/xfce4/mcs_settings/xfwm4.xml, there is a line <option name="Xfwm/DblClickAction" type="string" value="maximize"/>. You can try to change that but I think that bug occurs when the dblclick is detected, not when the action is run
[10:10] <gregoiregentil> also, this setting is moved to /home/ai/.config/xfce4/mcs_settings/xfwm4.xml when the user changes it
[10:11] <gregoiregentil> the best way to change it is to do it with the xfce4 UI manager. xfce-setting-show
[10:11] <ryuo> bofh__, can you try using the drop-down menu button?
[10:11] <ryuo> and see if that works?
[10:11] <ryuo> if its not already enabled
[10:12] * jvs (n=jvs@90.146.56.206) Quit ("Leaving")
[10:12] <ryuo> gregoiregentil, how goes the software development?
[10:13] <gregoiregentil> I would say: not bad. A lot of additions in the past few weeks, some are quite important (openoffice, Ubuntu, android...) probably 3/4 bugs/features to improve before declaring 1.0
[10:14] <bofh__> ryuo, depending on which window I am on when it crashes. I can't ALT+TAB to other windows when this happens either. But I don't see any option to restore the title bar via GUI.
[10:14] <ryuo> my TB has collected dust for awhile. just been waiting for bugs to be fixed before i try to use it again =p
[10:15] <ryuo> hm
[10:15] <bofh__> and actually can't even switch windows by clicking on the window listings int he bottom desktop window list bar either.
[10:15] <ryuo> well xfwm4, at least on x86, allows you to have a menu button that drops down an action menu.
[10:15] <bofh__> yes, I'm familiar with that. don't see it on the tb though.
[10:15] <ryuo> i believe it might also trigger if you perform middle click + alt
[10:16] <ryuo> hm
[10:16] <bofh__> "middle" click?
[10:16] <ryuo> yea.
[10:16] <ryuo> my mouse has a middle button
[10:16] <ryuo> if your only 2 buttons then
[10:16] <bofh__> just using the tb as itself.
[10:16] <ryuo> its sometimes imitated by ..
[10:16] <ryuo> Oh.
[10:17] <ryuo> =)
[10:17] <bofh__> no external periphs yet. add those after I've tested the base.
[10:17] <ryuo> perhaps you can modify the settings to display a menu drop down button?
[10:17] <ryuo> as a work around if that helps
[10:17] <bofh__> hmmm, even ALT+F4 doesn't work when that happens too.
[10:17] <ryuo> sounds like xfwm4 enters a crash or infinite loops
[10:18] <bofh__> (but CTRL+Q works, at least for some apps).
[10:18] <ryuo> that it cant break out of
[10:18] <bofh__> yes, right now the only fix is to via keyboard, switch to other console CTRL+ALT+F2 (unless I happen to be in a shell window when it happens), and runexport DISPLAY=:0; xfwm4
[10:18] * blunderer (n=tristan@LPuteaux-156-15-47-90.w82-127.abo.wanadoo.fr) Quit ("Leaving.")
[10:18] <ryuo> but could it just be a bug in xfwm4 because the 4.4.x branch is the old stable?
[10:19] <bofh__> or else CTRL+ALT+Backspace, or reboot.
[10:19] <ryuo> hm
[10:19] <bofh__> gregoiregentil, said it was gtk+ issue. I don't know.
[10:19] <ryuo> well if your desperate, you could try building an alternative
[10:19] <ryuo> window manager like openbox
[10:19] <bofh__> heh
[10:19] <ryuo> just until this issue sees a resolution
[10:19] <bofh__> no, I'm just trying to help out with what the AI folks are working on. ;-)
[10:19] <ryuo> okay. =p
[10:21] <bofh__> Ah, here is the error that occurs when it crashes: xfwm4:3007: Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_events: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed ** ERROR **: xfwm4: sefmentation fault. aborting.... [1]+ Aborted xfwm4.

[10:29] <bofh__> gregoiregentil, should I file a bug report about the bash command line completion issue?
[10:32] <gregoiregentil> sure
[10:33] <bofh__> k.
[10:34] * _ant_ (n=ant@95-27-165-65.broadband.corbina.ru) has left #touchbook
[10:35] <bofh__> hmmm, on xfce issue, even changing the option for double click from "maxmize" to "shade" still causes crash on double click. at least via the change via UI for xfce-setting-show.
[10:36] <gregoiregentil> correct. I have just tried. I will patch xfwm4 at least to avoid the crash
[10:37] <Corsac> gregoiregentil: is it an upstream bug?
[10:37] * taruti (i=taruti@aoi.yi.org) has left #touchbook
[10:37] <Corsac> I think I remember something like that at one point
[10:37] <gregoiregentil> yes
[10:37] <Corsac> but 4.4 is old
[10:37] <gregoiregentil> it's a bug triggered by new gtk+
[10:37] <gregoiregentil> but indeed as xfwm4.4 is too old, nobody really cares. except me...
[10:37] <Corsac> :)
[10:38] <gregoiregentil> xfwm4.6 is probably not impacted otherwise there would have been many reports
[10:38] <gregoiregentil> Still waiting for somebody to finish the xfce4.6 port ;-)
[10:38] <gregoiregentil> all the recipes and their corresponding patches are in the git
[10:38] <gregoiregentil> and now that there is glib2.9, it's easy to work on this
[10:39] <leinir> that's so annoying
[10:39] <Corsac> yeah though I'm not exactly sure what's really needed in the ???port???
[10:52] <ryuo> xfce 4.4 -> 4.6 had some changes
[10:55] <Corsac> I already built 4.6 (though it was on 2009.11a or so) but it was pure upstream, without most AI patches
[10:56] <ryuo> for example xfce4-mixer now uses gstreamer for audio control
[10:57] <Corsac> well, the most important change for me is the xfconf stuff
[10:58] <ryuo> yea..
[10:59] <ryuo> does the wireless work with WPAv2?
[10:59] <ryuo> thats what my router uses now
[11:01] <bofh__> ryou. I had a lot of trouble with it in 2009-12.a. But so far working fine with 2010-01.a Though I haven't load tested yet (was dropping under sustained heavy loads in previous version).
[11:01] <Corsac> ryuo: yes
[11:02] <ryuo> good. :-P
[11:03] <ryuo> wonder what device greg will do next?

[11:50] <rpgresearch> or at least, where/what are the config files for modifying sensitivity of the touch interface?
[11:50] <Sn0wman> and that is "ts_calibrate" as root
[11:50] <rpgresearch> hmm, nothing else configurable on the touch screen then? even as manual config file edits?
[11:51] <Sn0wman> not that I know of but I'm a novice. I would say ask gregoiregentil

[11:55] <gregoiregentil> no, it's fixed for reinstall.sh
[11:56] <rpgresearch> the keyboard one works better now. but in tablet mode it just shows N/A. and the uevent for tablet still wonky unfortunately.

[13:38] <Corsac> when I press the power button, I have the first AI logo, then the garbled screen, then the red one and then black screen, off
[13:38] <Corsac> I don't even have time to touch the screen to get the menu
[13:39] <Sn0wman> out of battery?
[13:39] <Corsac> not sure if it's because of 2010.01a or because of mattery
[13:39] <Corsac> battery*
[13:39] <Corsac> the bottom part is plugged, but it seems the top part isn't charging
[13:40] <Corsac> when separating the top and bottom part, and plugging the top part to DC, it doesn't switch on

[17:11] <Sn0wman> what?!?!?!?!?!?!
[17:11] <Sn0wman> why isn't fennec on the newest release?
[17:14] <gregoiregentil> it is. Just removed from start menu as it sucks so much
[17:14] <gregoiregentil> just type fennec in a terminal to launch it
[17:15] <Sn0wman> oh alright
[17:15] <Sn0wman> thanks
[17:15] <Sn0wman> and how do you add icons to the desktop?
[17:15] <gregoiregentil> np
[17:16] <gregoiregentil> Example: http://git.alwaysinnovating.com/cgit.cgi/ai.openembedded.dev/tree/ai/postprocess/home/ai/Desktop/Getting%20Started/Watch%20a%20video
[17:19] <rpgresearch> so, I can use the tablet now (couldn't under 2009-12.a, it would just lock up the 3d UI). With 2010-01.a I can use the 3d interface for a few minutes before it locks up. nice to get to experience it (though still takes a lot of pressure to scroll through menu items). When it locks up. to get it back to keyboard mode, I have to run the xfwm4 command line, and it loads and I'm working again, but if I go back to the tablet 3d mode, it is still locke du
[17:19] <rpgresearch> p where I left it interestingly enough.. What is the equivalent script to get the 3d interface to recover?

[17:50] <gregoiregentil> fennec
[17:50] <Sn0wman> ??
[17:50] <Sn0wman> Thats the most usable browser on the TB imo
[17:51] <Sn0wman> what sucks about it?
