[0:20] <gregoiregentil> Plus a bunch of kernel patches to support Android. Very important last sentence for this crappy Android...!
[0:20] <Gary13579> or we could ditch android and focus on AI OS...!

[10:39] <churl_> does the auto update work with the 2009-11.a image?
[10:40] <gregoiregentil> No. Auto-update won't work as long as we stay in beta. It will be available when we have release 1.0 (targeting for January or February)
[10:41] <gregoiregentil> 2009-12.a brings a lot of enhancements and you can do the upgrade from the machine itself now
[10:41] <gregoiregentil> but it will erase all data
[10:41] <churl_> hi gregoiregentil
[10:41] <churl_> how are you?
[10:41] <gregoiregentil> there may be a 2009-12.b soon (only three days left) or more probably a very early 2010-01.a with a few additional fixes (nothing really critical compared to 2009-12.a) but a few things
[10:41] <gregoiregentil> Thanks. Good.
[10:42] <gregoiregentil> so all depends if you have important data on your device or not. If not, you may/should upgrade. If you have important data, you should wait for the true 1.0 release
[10:43] <gregoiregentil> Last, a good idea is to read this: http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Changelog
[10:43] <churl_> no data on the touchbook yet
[10:43] <gregoiregentil> This page is very up-to-date.
[10:44] <churl_> how is video playback coming?
[10:44] <gregoiregentil> it's still mplayer + optimized cortex
[10:44] <gregoiregentil> at the same time, DSP is still available and working (read the examples on the wiki)
[10:45] <martinh> now that I'm not having issues with usb I can keep an 8G flash stick in there and back up data to that regularly.
[10:46] <martinh> so, I don't need to worry about erasing data on the sd card.
[10:46] * tommd (n=Thomas_D@65-102-11-148.ptld.qwest.net) has joined #touchbook
[10:46] <churl_> where can i find the 12.a image?
[10:46] <gregoiregentil> if you want to upgrade from the device, read this:
[10:47] <gregoiregentil> http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Reinstall_OS
[10:47] <gregoiregentil> you need to have public or WEP wifi available
[10:48] <churl_> ok, i was looking there, it was a little unclear for me
[10:48] <gregoiregentil> what is unclear?
[10:52] <churl_> well, my understanding now is that if I'm using the 11.a image, I only need to "In any version, you need to reboot. Once you see the red background, press the screen. You will access a menu, and you should select the option #6. Then follow the instructions."
[10:53] <gregoiregentil> no
[10:53] <gregoiregentil> In any version <= 2009-11.a, you need to open a terminal and type:
[10:53] <gregoiregentil> applies to you
[10:53] <gregoiregentil> let me reformulate the wiki page
[10:53] <churl_> ah! = :)
[10:55] <gregoiregentil> Modified. Perhaps it's more clear now
[10:58] <churl_> thank you
[10:59] <churl_> it looks nice
[11:42] <churl_> I'm trying to update from 11.a to 12.a and after entering option 6 on start up, and entering my ssid it says /init: /initrd.d/85-ai.sh: line 225: iwconfig: not found
[11:42] <churl_> and iwlist : not found
[11:49] <churl_> oh wait, essid

[12:16] <mervaka> ya
[12:17] <mervaka> i found that didnt work
[12:17] <churl_> any ideas?
[12:17] <gregoiregentil> let me take a look
[12:17] <mervaka> iwtools arent present
[12:17] <mervaka> or arent referenced properly, or something
[12:18] <gregoiregentil> one second...
[12:18] <gregoiregentil> yup
[12:18] <gregoiregentil> my mistake. there is a missing file
[12:19] <gregoiregentil> I can fix that
[12:21] <gregoiregentil> IT's fixed. You have two options
[12:21] <gregoiregentil> either re-execute reinstall.sh once you have booted normally
[12:21] <gregoiregentil> or you need to add to the first partition
[12:21] <gregoiregentil> the file ai-install.tbz2 which is in the http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/release/latest/
[12:27] <churl_> would i need to remove the old reinstall.sh before downloading the new reinstall.sh?
[12:27] <churl_> or just run ./reinstall.sh
[12:29] * setanta (n=setanta@200.184.118.130) Quit (Read error: 60 (Operation timed out))
[12:38] <gregoiregentil> yes. you need a new resintall.sh
[12:38] <gregoiregentil> which is on the server (same URL)
[12:39] <gregoiregentil> I have updated the version number and the date at the top of this .sh file

[13:27] <gregoiregentil> did you register to get it?

[13:28] <azul> I put in an order when it was first available, but I guess it didn't go through
[13:28] <azul> so I did another one.
[13:28] <gregoiregentil> "when it was first available", you mean the counter balance?
[13:28] <gregoiregentil> what's your name?
[13:29] <azul> yes
[13:30] <azul> Jason
[13:37] <azul> I believe I read somewhere that a second batch would be shipped mid-december
[14:02] * azul_ (n=irchon@166.191.194.203) has joined #touchbook
[14:03] <tommd> For the record, the counter balances work quite well. I attached mine with some double-bubble epoxy and they hold solid, don't get in the way, and keep the system well grounded.
[14:04] <azul_> did you remove the weights from the kb?
[14:05] <tommd> not yet
[14:05] <tommd> suppose I really can't at this point, not that I really care.
[14:06] <gregoiregentil> azul_: I wouldn't recommend to remove the weight at this point, but I would say that with the counter balance, the system is very stable and it wouldn't be very far from removing the weights indeed. Perhaps to keep half

[14:46] <edgar> Hi gregoire
[14:47] <gregoiregentil> Hello
[14:47] <edgar> Is there a a reason, why not to start the localhost "lo" not by system startup ?
[14:48] <edgar> the interface
[14:48] <gregoiregentil> no
[14:49] <edgar> Ok, then let it start ;)
[14:50] <gregoiregentil> OK. but where and when?
[14:51] <edgar> Soon as possible. GPSd does not work with localhost and generates a bad error message(no errno info), if it is not up.
[14:53] <edgar> Therefore a lot of people, which want to test gps possibilities, will confused with this error.
[14:54] <edgar> sorry, will not work WITHOUT localhost
[14:55] <Gary13579> edgar, oh hmm, good call.
[14:55] <Gary13579> FIN__Mas1er, see above, might fix your gpsd error.
[14:58] <Gary13579> that really should be it heh, can't create a socket cause the interface isn't up :\
[15:04] <gregoiregentil> I should receive my GPS dongle tomorrw. so GPS support may receive a severe boost in the coming days
[15:04] <edgar> Yes Gary1379, bad gpsd error message and unusal "no localhost" is the problem
[15:07] <edgar> gregoire: Try tangogps, it is nice, it works and is a good test app
[15:07] <gregoiregentil> ok
