[8:29] <volatile_touchbo> Hi :)
[8:30] <volatile_touchbo> Damn, someone stole my ok
[8:36] * mjr (i=mjr@195.197.238.66) has joined #touchbook
[8:39] * volatile_touchbo is now known as volatile_tb
[8:42] <leinir> Hi Dr Nick! ;)
[8:43] <volatile_tb> Me?
[8:44] <volatile_tb> while(leinir_means_me==1){thx}
[8:44] <leinir> *giggles* :)
[8:47] * Josh-Harris (n=JoshHarr@174.32.213.23) has joined #touchbook
[8:48] <volatile1> I better type here
[8:48] <volatile1> TB keyboard is like... yeah, not too great :D
[8:48] <viridior> yeah, im not a fan of it
[8:48] <volatile1> Here at the pc I got a happy hacking keyboard :)
[8:49] <viridior> its more useful than not, and it does come with the extra battery
[8:49] <volatile1> So I got my tb running with LXDE
[8:49] <volatile1> What can I do to get sound?
[8:49] <viridior> i mostly use the bluetooth mac-like keyboard from Rocketfish for it, works much better
[8:49] <leinir> it's kind of odd, really :)
[8:49] <volatile1> :)
[8:49] <drantin> i'm much happier with my touchbook keyboard, than my XO-1 keyboard >_>
[8:49] * t_s_o (n=tso@202.84-49-132.nextgentel.com) Quit ("Leaving")
[8:50] <viridior> volatile1: using the AIOS kernel?
[8:50] * t_s_o (n=tso@202.84-49-132.nextgentel.com) has joined #touchbook
[8:50] <volatile1> viridior: Ubuntu
[8:50] <volatile1> viridior: I used this script http://gitorious.org/ubuntutouchbookremix/pages/Home
[8:51] * volatile1 needs halp :(
[8:52] <viridior> probably the best patched kernel for armv7a is the angstrom/OE kernel, we had a .ebuild that pulled in their patches but it hasn't been updated in a while
[8:52] * t_s_o (n=tso@202.84-49-132.nextgentel.com) Quit (Client Quit)
[8:52] * t_s_o (n=tso@202.84-49-132.nextgentel.com) has joined #touchbook
[8:52] <viridior> tmlind kernels work, but they are usually a few weeks behind the curve
[8:53] <viridior> i believe that 2.6.33 vanilla will finally have the dss2 support built into it, that should make it a decent build source for armv7a
[8:54] <volatile1> http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/01/11/halp-12/ <= /me
[8:55] <leinir> http://elinux.org/OMAP_Power_Management <-- according to that, yeah :)
[8:55] <leinir> But the really interesting stuff looks to be 2.6.34 - "Large set of fixes from Nokia"
[8:55] <leinir> that whole real-world thing ;)
[8:57] <viridior> you mean Real Time?
[8:59] <volatile1> I think Ill have to use AIOS again since Im just not too deep into linux :(((
[9:07] * Josh-Harris (n=JoshHarr@174.32.213.23) Quit ("Leaving")
[9:18] <topi_> has anyone tried 32GB SD cards on the TB, or bigger?
[9:18] <topi_> I'm thinking of getting a 32GB card for it.
[9:24] * volatile1 (n=volatile@g225237121.adsl.alicedsl.de) has left #touchbook
[9:30] * t_s_o (n=tso@202.84-49-132.nextgentel.com) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[9:46] * volatile_tb (n=volatile@g225237121.adsl.alicedsl.de) Quit ("Leaving.")
[9:50] <mervaka> it supports SDHC
[10:17] * markwbaur (n=Mark@stgt-5f71cc1f.pool.mediaWays.net) Quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[10:29] <Gary13579> has anyone been looking into why firefox runs so slow on the TB?
[10:29] <Gary13579> watching videos of another OMAP3 platform, firefox runs great
[10:30] <Corsac> if you're referring to n900, that's not firefox, the engine is the same but not the application
[10:30] <Corsac> firefox is slow as hell everywhere anyway
[10:31] <Gary13579> Corsac, nope, Pandora. I don't recall seeing any custom version for it, so it seems to be running stock FireFox much better than the TB
[10:31] <Gary13579> might just be the smaller resolution
[10:48] * Meiz_webirc (i=3ef1f823@gateway/web/freenode/x-jqvljntjrxbyshdo) has joined #touchbook
[11:21] <topi_> Gary13579: try running firefox on a 500MHz Pentium III from 2000, and you'll know
[11:28] <Gary13579> topi_, I can make useless irrelevant points, as well.
[11:28] <Gary13579> cats make meowing noises so firefox is slow!
[11:29] <topi_> why would you want to run firefox anyway?
[11:29] <topi_> look at the n900, they eschewed the fox because they wanted speed
[11:29] <Gary13579> 1) comparing P3 x86 to ARM is stupid, 2) Pandora is the EXACT same OMAP3 chip that is in the TB, 3) FireFox runs decently on Pandora
[11:30] <topi_> do you *know* it is firefox that you see running on pandora?
[11:30] <Gary13579> My work site is broken in anything but Gecko.
[11:30] <Gary13579> and yes, it is
[11:31] <topi_> it's not stupid to compare the arm to the x86. the cortex-a8 just sucks in a different way than the P3
[11:32] <topi_> but both suck, perforance-wise ;)
[11:32] <topi_> there are other browsers that use the Gecko renderer than ffox
[11:33] <topi_> but if you think you can *fix* the performance problems of firefox on the ARM, please do so and post the patches
[11:33] <Gary13579> Uh, I used a 500mhz p3 for several years. the omap3 is a LOT better performance wise.
[11:33] <Gary13579> and I'm not saying I'm interested in fixing it, just that it's running fine on other omap3 devices.
[11:34] <topi_> I *won't* believe that before I see it
[11:35] <Gary13579> won't believe what?
[11:35] <topi_> there are some good reasons why firefox sucks on the OMAP3. the primary might be that firefox has been developed on the x86 with big caches. the OMAP3 has only 256k of cache instead of 2 or 4 MB.
[11:36] <Gary13579> What is the suggested browser, btw? Midori/Chromium?
[11:36] <Meiz_webirc> Mozilla says FF 3.6 will be faster.
[11:36] <Meiz_webirc> Midori is fast
[11:38] <topi_> chromium probably is x86 only.
[11:38] <Gary13579> topi_, no?
[11:38] <Gary13579> chromium has ran on BB for many months now
[11:39] <Gary13579> things like V8 were specifically designed to include ARM support
[11:39] <Gary13579> hell they even want chrome os to run on arm
