[2:04] <DJWillis> koen: Just about got the Linux-PAM stuff working in a way I am happy with (and I feel we (that is OE/Angstrom) can maintain and extend). So far, Sudo, Shadow, SLiM and a few other PAM aware apps are all playing nice. Now need to group the commits ;-).
[2:07] <_koen_> nice
[2:08] <_koen_> DJWillis: did you see the branch I did?
[2:08] <_koen_> DJWillis: http://dominion.thruhere.net/git/cgit.cgi/openembedded/log/?h=koen/openpandora-rebase
[2:08] <DJWillis> _koen_: I did, well I saw the link ;-). Been busy all weekend with some real life stuff. I'll take a look now.
[2:09] <_koen_> that was done with 'git rebase -i <rev>' and change a few 'pick' into 'squash'
[2:10] <DJWillis> _koen_: one thing I need to do is setup a def_pref -1 for uClibC for the latest libpam as I have not tested it there and I suspect it will barf. They can stay on the old version unless someone else wants to do the uplift.
[2:11] <DJWillis> _koen_: yep, but that then rebases the tree without all the commits, well I fooked up my local tree copy anyway trying that ;-)
[2:19] <_koen_> DJWillis: have a look at http://dominion.thruhere.net/git/cgit.cgi/openembedded/log/?h=koen/openpandora-rebase now :)

[3:07] <jvs> hmm
[3:08] <jvs> looks like I cannot load the tablet when it is connected to the keyboard
[3:19] <DJWillis> _koen_: I can see what you have done, got some but not all of the commits. In meetings now so i'll think about it later.

[4:21] <_koen_> DJWillis: how does http://dominion.thruhere.net/git/cgit.cgi/openembedded/log/?h=koen/openpandora-rebase look now?

[5:29] * setanta (n=setanta@200.184.118.130) has joined #touchbook
[5:43] <DJWillis> _koen_: commit messages aside the top three commits on that rebase seem to include all of the PAM rework needed to get it all working in OE, only think missing is the uclibc def pref -1 for the new pam version.
[5:44] <DJWillis> _koen_: also, is there a default recipe for installing files into /etc/skel for new user creation?
[5:46] * _koen_ has no idea on that
[5:47] <DJWillis> _koen_: i'll make one for the Pandora for now, I guess base-files would make sense long term (maybe at the distro level anyway).
[5:48] <_koen_> maybe shove them into shadow for now
[5:51] <DJWillis> _koen_: could work, may not be a bad idea, I was thinking of doing the dir creation in shadow anyway as that does the population afterall.

[7:54] <Meizirkki> I don't
[8:02] <Zopper> I'm writing ticket to forum:
[8:02] <Zopper> I have a "pink mess" on mainboard, where are USBs. Its hard and cannot be remove (maybe with strong, but I don't want broke my TB). Can this cause my next problems?
[8:02] <Zopper> - when I connect any USB device (mouse, modem, dongle...), screen made few blink to black and sometime (cca 20% conections) go to white and device stop responding.
[8:02] <Zopper> - I cannot use modem nor cellphone with modem (HTC MDA with windows mobile) nor USB ethernet, because TB is freezing (next point). All these devices are working on my laptop with Ubuntu
[8:02] <Zopper> - I have frequently "freezes" - TB stop responding after few minutes when I'm working on it, and sometimes when I leave it and don't do anything. TB also sometimes go to freeze, when I connect some USB devices.

[18:44] <snlemons-tb> gregoiregentil: in this forum post http://alwaysinnovating.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=235&p=1147&hilit=ethernet#p1147 you say USB ethernet dongle is working, but not much about how or which devices are supported. any more details on that issue?
[18:44] <gregoiregentil> you have a bunch of modules
[18:44] <gregoiregentil> on the image or on the server
[18:45] <gregoiregentil> you should try to identify which module you need for your dm9601
[18:45] <gregoiregentil> let me take a look
[18:45] <gregoiregentil> you first need to download and extract this on the Touch Book: http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/release/latest/modules.tgz
[18:46] <gregoiregentil> then plug the dongle and see if it loads the driver (it should auto-load the driver)
[18:46] <gregoiregentil> do sudo -slsmod
[18:46] <gregoiregentil> sorry
[18:46] <gregoiregentil> sudo -s
[18:46] <gregoiregentil> lsmod
[18:46] <gregoiregentil> before and after plugging the dongle to list the drivers loaded into the kernel
[18:48] <gregoiregentil> you need to understand if the driver supporting this device is in the kernel or if you need to compile it
[18:49] <snlemons-tb> gregoiregentil: same output before and after: omaplfb, pvsrvkm, rt3070sta
[18:49] <gregoiregentil> good and bad news
[18:49] <gregoiregentil> good news: gregoire@gregoire-laptop:/OE/build/tmp/work/omap3-touchbook-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/linux-omap-2.6.29-r49/git$ find . -name dm9601*
[18:49] <gregoiregentil> ./drivers/net/usb/dm9601.c
[18:49] <gregoiregentil> bad news: it's not compiled
[18:49] <gregoiregentil> so it's not in module.tgz
[18:49] <snlemons-tb> ha. that explains why I couldn't findit in that modules tar, eh?
[18:49] <snlemons-tb> yeah, figured
[18:50] <gregoiregentil> What's your skills about compiling?
[18:50] <gregoiregentil> the best option is to compile the kernel and modify the .config file
[18:50] <gregoiregentil> you need CONFIG_USB_NET_DM9601
[18:51] <snlemons-tb> ahhh. compiling I do. kernel compiling I haven't done so often before. are there instructions on the wiki or anywhere else I can get to?
[18:51] <gregoiregentil> you probably need also CONFIG_USB_USBNET
[18:51] <snlemons-tb> ah, yeah, I'd read usbnet might be important.
[18:52] <gregoiregentil> http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Kernel but you need openembedded too if you just those files
[18:55] <snlemons-tb> gregoiregentil: so, do I just need the kernel zip linked there, in addition to openembedded?
[18:56] <gregoiregentil> have you already set up OE?
[18:56] <snlemons-tb> not yet. just trying to figure out what all I will need.
[19:02] <gregoiregentil> you need OE and then cross-compile kernel with OE
[19:03] <snlemons-tb> sure. installed all packages listed here http://wiki.openembedded.net/index.php/OEandYourDistro#Ubuntu
[19:05] <gregoiregentil> you need to do all of this: http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/AI_OS_compilation
[19:05] <gregoiregentil> then bitbake linux-omap
[19:05] <gregoiregentil> to cross-compile the kernel
[19:05] * shiznebit_ (n=chatzill@ool-18b99096.dyn.optonline.net) has joined #touchbook
[19:05] <gregoiregentil> then modif .config file to add the needed configuration
[19:05] <gregoiregentil> and recompile kernel
[19:06] <gregoiregentil> I'm doing it for you right now (I'm nice because I'm very busy and I have tons of things to do)
[19:06] * snlemons-tb (n=ai@c-24-60-77-165.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) Quit (Read error: 60 (Operation timed out))
[19:07] <gregoiregentil> and the guy left ;-)
[19:07] <gregoiregentil> kernel with DM9601 included is at: http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/tmp/uImage-dm
[19:07] <shiznebit_> hah
[19:08] <gregoiregentil> file should replace uImage on the first partition
[19:08] <shiznebit_> what is this kernel
[19:08] * snlemons-tb (n=ai@c-24-60-77-165.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) has joined #touchbook
[19:08] <gregoiregentil> shiznebit_: please read history
[19:08] <gregoiregentil> snlemons-tb: please read history of IRC
[19:08] <shiznebit_> k will do
[19:08] <gregoiregentil> kernel with DM9601 included is at: http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/tmp/uImage-dm
[19:08] <snlemons-tb> oops. finally ran out of battery.
[19:09] <snlemons-tb> gregoiregentil: oh, great!
[19:10] <snlemons-tb> gregoiregentil: does it have a ton of other stuff compiled in, or only dm9601?
[19:11] * Guest86137 (n=chatzill@ppp-70-247-172-48.dsl.rcsntx.swbell.net) has joined #touchbook
[19:12] <snlemons-tb> oh, irc log finally loaded. you made it for me. thanks so much!
[19:14] <snlemons-tb> ok, got to shut down to yank this SD card and replace kernel, I'd bet. thanks again gregoiregentil!
[19:18] * snlemons-tb (n=ai@c-24-60-77-165.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) Quit ("Powered by OE: www.openembedded.org")
[19:26] <Guest86137> it must be true: gregoire est gentil! ;)
[19:27] <gregoiregentil> well, he will thank me when it's working. Waiting for the question: why isn't there any eth0 reported by ifconfig or something like that (or worse, the kernel doesn't boot)....
[19:35] <Guest86137> gregoiregentil: Care to let me edit the wiki?
[19:35] <gregoiregentil> sure
[19:36] <Guest86137> I've got an account already.
[19:37] <Guest86137> Anything else I need to do?
[19:37] <gregoiregentil> no
[19:40] <Guest86137> I can't edit the main page. Is that restricted?
[19:42] <gregoiregentil> yes. it's. THere are a few pages restricted (main, roadmap). otherwise, everything else is open
[19:42] <Guest86137> ok, my mistake then.
[19:42] <Guest86137> I would like to see a little different organization of that page, but I'll take it to the discussion page
[19:43] <gregoiregentil> Good idea.
[19:51] * evilnick (i=4571af51@rockbox/staff/evilnick) Quit (Ping timeout: 180 seconds)
[20:06] * snlemons-tb (n=ai@c-24-60-77-165.hsd1.nh.comcast.net) has joined #touchbook
[20:06] <snlemons-tb> gregoiregentil: works great. had to manually start dhcpcd, but that's just fine by me.
[20:07] <snlemons-tb> rather start it myself than always have it running when I don't need it.
[20:10] <gregoiregentil> Cool!
[20:10] <gregoiregentil> I may put it as module in next version, if I don't forget
[20:11] <snlemons-tb> that'd make me happy when it's time to upgrade. although I should probably try to compile the kernel myself at some point, anyway.
[20:13] <snlemons-tb> oh, speaking of compiling, I still can't get quicksynergy to compile. it says it can't find libatk-1.0 when it's very clearly in /usr/lib/. I even set LD_LIBRARY_PATH just to make sure.
[20:13] <snlemons-tb> if anyone has any suggestions there, I'd appreciate them.
[20:20] <Guest86137> snlemons-tb: you have ethernet or just wifi?
[20:20] <snlemons-tb> Guest86137: both.
[20:20] <Guest86137> Ethernet over USB?
[20:21] <Guest86137> I didn't think I saw a port.
[20:21] <snlemons-tb> USB, yes
[20:22] <Guest86137> ok
[20:24] <snlemons-tb> Davicom dm9160 USB card. the drivers weren't previously built, but gregoire built a copy of the kernel with them for me.
[20:25] <Guest86137> Yeah, saw that, but I didn't recognize the hardware by name

[23:19] <hyc> does anyone know yet why the screen always blanks the first time wifi connects?
[23:29] <jvs> it doesn't do that here hyc
[23:29] <jvs> it blanks when I connect hardware via usb
