[0:11] <jvs> good morning
[0:21] <jvs> are there forum moderators beside alexandre and gregoire?
[0:24] <ryuo> doesnt appear so.
[0:24] <ryuo> we got a repeat spammer i noticed
[0:34] <jvs> ryuo, right
[0:35] * Vito89 (n=quassel@147.32.223.21) has joined #touchbook
[0:35] <jvs> maybe they should promote on of the fanboys to moderator
[0:35] <ryuo> lol
[0:35] <ryuo> i moderate my distro forums but i can't ban users.
[0:36] * azaghal (n=azaghal@195.252.105.220) has joined #touchbook
[0:37] * Vito89 (n=quassel@147.32.223.21) Quit ("No Ping reply in 90 seconds.")
[0:51] <koen> things like syntax errors cause parsing errors
[1:17] <Corsac> Macer: they should be in the git tree
[1:19] <Corsac> http://wiki.alwaysinnovating.com/upload/kernel_2.6.29.1.zip
[1:19] <Corsac> http://alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Kernel
[1:19] <Corsac> might help too
[1:21] <Corsac> Macer: btw all the patches are in the recipes/linux/linux-omap-2.6.29/omap3-touchbook/ folder
[1:21] <Corsac> so if you have the machine configured in local.conf, it should include them automagically, I think
[1:22] <Corsac> hem
[1:22] <Corsac> no
[1:22] <Corsac> pay a little attention
[1:22] <Corsac> oh
[1:22] <Corsac> then you're on your own, basically :)
[1:22] <Corsac> just do what the recipe would do
[1:23] <Corsac> (I don't know why you want that, though)
[1:23] <Corsac> well, afaiui, it cross-compiles if it needs to
[1:24] <DJWillis> Macer: take all the patches from the recipe and apply them to your approperate root kernel tree.
[1:24] <DJWillis> Macer: care to pastebin said errors ;-)
[1:24] <Corsac> weird, I didn't try on the touchbook but on my debian unstable bitbakes works pretty fine
[1:24] <Corsac> maybe a python version problem
[1:25] <Corsac> Macer: there's a -pm tree btw
[1:25] <Corsac> recipe I mean
[1:25] <DJWillis> Macer: your trying to bitbake ON the Touchbook?? Do you have REALLY big balls :-o
[1:26] <Corsac> (after crying everywhere that it was slow as hell)
[1:28] <DJWillis> Macer: hmmm, well OpenEmbedded is NOT really a good choice to do native on-device stuff, that's just going to be painful ;-). What's so hard about just GIT cloning a tree, applying a load of patches and make uImage? (Or am I missing something)?
[1:30] <DJWillis> Macer: well dump OE/bitbake on the device and just go all 'native' on it, should be pretty easy. I think the TB is using it's own ID now but you will need a U-Boot that exports the right ID.
[1:31] <DJWillis> Macer: http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/developer/machines/list.php?id=2393 is the TB machine ID stuff.
[1:32] <DJWillis> Macer: if you want to pastebin the error go ahead ;).
[1:32] <DJWillis> Macer: What kernel recipe are you trying to build?
[1:34] * ryuo sniffs.
[1:34] * DJWillis wonders off to cry ;)
[1:34] <ryuo> Whats that burning smell?
[1:35] <ryuo> looks like someone baked it for a bit too long :P
[1:38] <DJWillis> Macer: I dare you to try and build with OABI, I could use a laugh, yep, EABI
[1:40] <jvs> :)
[1:41] <ryuo> Macer, i know snails that move faster! :P

[4:58] <jvs> clock skew
[4:59] <jvs> did us run ntp-client in between?
[4:59] <jvs> *you
[5:07] <koen> Macer: cpufreq won't work with the default AI kernel
[5:07] <koen> Macer: the kernel in OE does have the needed patches for it
[5:08] <koen> (which I have said numerous times in this IRC channel)
[5:11] <koen> Macer: nope, I have a cpufreq enabled kernel working fine on m touchbook :)
[5:11] <koen> yes
[5:11] <koen> you can build it with OE
[5:12] <koen> which other hardware?
[5:12] <koen> the beagleboard?
[5:12] <koen> I said "working fine", didn't I?
[5:13] <koen> there is no "oe kernel src"
[5:13] <koen> OE applies patches to existing sources
[5:16] <koen> it's a linux source like any other linux source

[6:21] <DJWillis> koen: I an tweaking and looking to use it as the base of the Pandora image going forward, I am using my task-pandora-xfce to build not the sample recipe at the moment however. There is no *DM in that sample image as it was going to be a DISTRO independent demo image.

[6:45] * Vito89 (n=quassel@195.113.241.249) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[6:53] <koen> DJWillis: a dm is an image decision, not a distro decision :)

[7:19] <DJWillis> koen: I was working on SLiM for the DM as I really don't want to carry something GDM in what should be a small image. SLiM however needs a bit more work.
[7:21] <DJWillis> koen: I am sure Corsac will point out it's Xfce ;-) but that looks great, it's on .dev anyway so people can expect to have to kick the tires for a little while as it settles.

[11:15] <torpor> greetz touchbook'ers, got mine today. first impressions: meh.
[11:16] <mturquette> another captivating review.
[11:16] <torpor> build quality is crap comparable to the smart q7, which is to say: wtf?
[11:16] <torpor> first thing it did when i put it on the table: fell over.
[11:16] <torpor> the magnets go on the outside? wtf?
[11:17] <torpor> keyboard is miserable, alignment of components, yech. audio jack almost ate my headphones. my keyboard is bent. and the hinge of the keyboard has damage (first thing i noticed out of the box)
[11:18] <torpor> so, consider this one early-adopter pretty unsatistfied. i will attempt some redemption, though, by using the hell out of it. if its still alive and working in a month, we'll call it fair.
[11:18] <torpor> sorry, just wanted to be honest.
[11:18] <Meizirkki> torpor, what's the big deal with magnets going outside
[11:19] <Meizirkki> ?
[11:19] <torpor> i figure if ai are listening, honesty is a better policy.
[11:19] <torpor> magnets: will fall off, will attract grunge and grime, are more of a gimmick than actually useful unless you use them to fix the touchbook somewhere and leave it there. in which case there are better/safer/cheaper ways of fixing the touchbook: duct tape.
[11:20] <torpor> by fixing i mean securing firmly in place.
[11:21] <Meizirkki> I'm surprised by all this.. my unit was good quality
[11:21] <torpor> really?
[11:21] <Meizirkki> the keyboard and all, i like it
[11:21] <torpor> what happened. i guess i'm in the third batch.
[11:21] <Meizirkki> headphones are working
[11:22] <torpor> i do not like the keyboard but then i use vim, so ..
[11:22] * azaghal_ (n=azaghal@91.148.112.109) Quit (Operation timed out)
[11:23] <azaghal__> Was it transportation problem or...?
[11:26] <torpor> beats me
[11:27] <torpor> the ding in the keyboard is definitely a QA issue, because it was there when I opened it and the box was pristine.
[11:28] <torpor> all else just look like poor materials selection choices, in my opinion.
[11:29] <torpor> the whole thing creaks when you flex it, the plastic is too supple.
[11:31] <Meizirkki> i agree with the back cover being stupid
[11:31] <Meizirkki> but i love the bright LED backlit touchscreen. LED backlight is one of the best choises they made

[11:37] <torpor> it reminds me of the dauphin dtr-1
[11:40] <DJWillis> torpor: not over the moon with it then?
[11:41] <torpor> not really.
[11:41] <torpor> it was a bit of a disappointment.
[11:41] <torpor> but i'll get over it as soon as i'm using it the way i want to: with seq24 and fluidsynth and midi ..
[11:42] <DJWillis> torpor: yet another music box for you then ;-)
[11:42] <torpor> only until pandora is in my hands, of course!
[11:42] <torpor> and yes, i have a few music boxes around these days, i'm having a lot of fun jamming!
[11:42] <Meizirkki> torpor, only 2 months and pandora will be out!
[11:43] <DJWillis> Meizirkki: ;-)
[11:43] * Meizirkki hides
[11:44] <Meizirkki> i didn't know there were pandora devs around ..
[11:44] <torpor> two more months!! fuck!
[11:44] <DJWillis> Meizirkki: it does not bother me ;-)
[11:44] <torpor> we need to actually work out the *exact* date that will be two months from the first pandora being held in a customers hands, and then work out what we were doing on that date.
[11:44] <torpor> will *today* be that date?
[11:45] <DJWillis> torpor: I think it became a standing joke, I hope to hell that's not the case, things are going well AFAIK.
[11:45] <torpor> i know
[11:45] <torpor> i know how hard it is to get hardware right
[11:45] <torpor> its terrible sometimes!
[11:46] <torpor> you stay up all night to get something working, and finally in the morning .. it still .. doesn't .. quite fit.
[11:46] <DJWillis> torpor: then you move onto software ;)
[11:46] <torpor> then you do get it all sorted and sent off for manufacture, and suddenly there's a whole new universe of headaches
[11:46] <torpor> yeah.
[11:46] <torpor> you stole my punchline.
[11:46] <torpor> i have so much gear because: i only do software. if i made hardware there is no way in hell i'd be buying this junk! :)
[11:48] <torpor> inventory time: zii egg:-great, then sucked. gph wiz:where the fuck is the docking station? iphone: certificates? wtf? touchbook: just got it, lets see, but so far .. yikes its cheap! smartq7: dead usb in 24 minutes, not used since (i need USB!)
[11:49] <torpor> g1 dev phone was fun, though.
[11:51] <DJWillis> torpor: yep, found out one SmartQ guy I was going to get a Q5 from had a massive (>80%) fail rate for some problem or another, it seems thet not only used lead free solder but also forgot the metal ;-)
[11:52] <Meizirkki> torpor, you have used Zii Egg?
[11:52] <Meizirkki> torpor, why did it suck?
[11:53] * Meizirkki has never tested it
[11:53] <torpor> i have the zii egg and it is great, but the latest firmware update has been very problematic.
[11:53] <Meizirkki> torpor, is it really able to do fullHD resolution?
[11:54] <Meizirkki> +video
[11:54] <torpor> yup
[11:54] <torpor> though i am only hacking on it, not using it for media playback
[11:54] <Meizirkki> it sounds like a good device.. how's the batterylife?
[11:54] <torpor> i dont have a movie collection believe it or not
[11:55] <Meizirkki> i don't have movie collection either
[11:55] <torpor> batterylife is average, so far about 4 to 5 hours, but i'm really pushing it hard during that time with the compile/debug/run cycle.

[16:16] <tommd> Yes, lame.
