The real question can you deliver product timely

Postby payload101 » Mon Oct 11, 2010 1:50 pm

I would have bought the original touch book but you had such horrible deliver times and were never able to fill all the orders you had. many canceled there orders because it took you months to deliver and when asked about delivery yyou were not very forth coming. So what is going to be different here.

The Commitments page says they'll be out in December. Regardless of what they say you're going to doubt them given their past performance, so just wait a few months and see what happens.

This is an interesting question, but not one that I would push so much, this is after all their second product and they probably know the process better. Anyway please read and heed my cautionary tale: I was one of the original aggravations who pushed for a quick release of the original, I got my way and was one of the first to receive the Touchbook. However, now after a bit more than a year, its broken. With that said, I don't mind waiting too much, if it helps insure the quality of the build. And even though my Touchbook is broken, YOU CAN BET YOUR REAR END I'M GOING TO BUY A SMART BOOK AS SOON AS IT IS RELEASED! And in retrospect I wish I had given them more slack with the original.

I don't really mind waiting neither. But, I would definitely enjoy informations, something like: "your order is the number 123, the current batch is up to 65 and the next will occur normally in one month". Then, I can plan when I will get it.

We can understand that AI is a small company who have big backorder, but just saying "wait" is not enough...

Alexandre,

PLEASE can you give us an update on the status of the hardware. I realise you have been working hard to get the software right as I've become bizarrely obsessed with checking progress in the git everyday! I've been waiting since March when my wife ordered a TouchBook for my birthday so you can imagine how that has gone down.

Commitment number 4 states "we will be as much transparent as possible regarding the status of our production" but we don't even know if "the full production of the fabs scheduled for October" was successful.

I'm a complete Linux newbie with years of experience in Windows. All logic tells me I'm crazy to still be awaiting your product given some of the setbacks v1 customers have experienced but I think that if you get it right this could be fun in so many ways. I'm not looking for trade secrets but some indication of how close you are would be gratefully received.
