Better plug

Postby joeba » Fri May 14, 2010 3:11 pm

I opened the power adapter today and decided that I'm going to order another one and modify it to have a second plug for my carrying case.

The plugs are connected to one wire each that go into a circuit board. I'm going to remove the plugs and attach the wires to an extension cable inside the adapter case. This will allow for a secure connection, but remove the bulk of the adapter from the sticking out prongs.

Any reason why I shouldn't do this?

So I cut off the prongs and wired in a plug. I added about 2 feet of cable and can fit the adapter in my travel bag. It's like a tiny brick now!

It wasn't hard. Let me know if you need help.

Great!
Thank you. This plug, with a european plug adaptator, gave something too big for me.
With your trick, I also have a small brick, much more convenient.
I attached a photo. I only had a white cord available at the moment, whence the 'home made' touch

Thanks for the info. I don't want to put you into a shame but here's my version in use providing extra 130 cm of cord (it has the same EU plug in the end).

:D
I feel no shame...
I only needed a more secure connexion. And I wished something more compact, but I had no interest in a longer cord (I should even have cut a shorter cord...).
I prefered to dig a hole in the square bulk where the US plugs were, because it helped to secure the cord and prevent from pulling on the soldering.
Well, you did a nice job!
