My screen does not normally blank with 2009-11.a
It does still blank under ubuntu (of course, any ideas what code I can change to stop it in ubuntu?)
The exceptions with 2009-11.a are when it connects to the wifi the screen blanks as if a screen saver, this also occurs when adjusting the time; a swipe of the touch pad brings it back.
I tried installing vlc to see if I could stream from mythtv. I got it running but after trying a few streams I lost the task bar and could not get it back even after a reboot (I tried a alt-ctrl-bksp, I tried restarting gdm from the terminal, could not get it back). I have just formatted the ext3 partition to default the settings and get the bar back.
Finger scrolling works great almost all the time.

Oh yeah! I also noticed a wifi issue that causes my touch book to connect at wirelessG not wirelessN but I will start another thread or look for an existing network one to put it in (I don't know if it is 2009-11.a specific)

update works - just takes longer than i expected

Postby islevegan » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:20 am

Ok, the "simple" update did work, when it was left to run for over a hour.
The wiki said about 40 minutes, so I had been expecting something after 50 minutes or so. The computer used for doing the update is an Intel Centrino 1.6ghz Toshiba laptop so there are probably others that will take over an hour.

I have the latest os as of this writing and no screen blanking problem so far! How about getting the other protocols into pidgin? I've seen a comment about that but the last comment suggested that updating ipkg would leave an unusable tb.

Hmm, some people seem to have success adding other protocols
http://alwaysinnovating.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=370

But the above does not work for me, as I mentioned in the discussion at the url above.

*update* - the simple update took 67 minutes on the toshiba listed above.

I finally got the problem figured out, not enough power. For whatever reason the new version of the os would not boot up (either on just the tablet or attached to the kb, both of which WERE fully charged) until i plugged it in. Once it booted up for the first time plugged in it now seems to be working fine.

You can run:

Code: Select all
$ sudo -i
# ipkg update
# ipkg install libpurple-protocol-msn
# ipkg install libpurple-protocol-aim
# ipkg install libpurple-protocol-yahoo
...

Just don't run:

Code: Select all
$ sudo -i
# ipkg update
# ipkg upgrade

Edit: Yes I meant with 'install'

adding protocols to pidgin

Postby islevegan » Mon Nov 16, 2009 12:20 pm

I assume you meant "ipkg install" and the rest, which gives me the following results, in the image attached. This was done after what appears to be a successful ipkg update as sudo -i.

this looks like your dns server broke in mid-install.
try again, maybe after a reboot. you may be more successful

adding protocols to pidgin - success

Postby islevegan » Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:21 pm

Regarding the pidgin / libpurple protocols:

That error happens every time when I'm at home, yet I can still browse with midori / firefox, etc.

I just tried it from the wireless connection at school and it works fine. I have yahoo now! I have tested it and it's working for chat on yahoo. I shall soon try with msn and aim.

Still curious why that problem happens at home...

battery meter

Postby islevegan » Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:25 pm

I unplugged my computer when I left home and left it in my backpack for the last 2 hours on my way to lunch then to school. I'm at school now and the battery thing says 6% NA and it's stuck there for a while.

I don't think that the computer could go from a full overnight charge to 6% while in my backpack for 2 hours.

The display brightness has been 5-7 steps down from full, so that is a factor to consider.

The battery monitor is only for the bottom (keyboard) battery and as it says the top battery meter will be ready in the next release.
The power management is pretty rubbish at the moment; "instant-off" or stand-by (pressing the power button to flick the screen off) uses almost as much power as when it is fully on. If I am not planning on using the TB for an extended period of time I usually shut it down.
I am looking forward to using "instant-off" a lot more once the power management is sorted out.
