I installed the new version and have still issues marked as solved...

1. First of all the install-sd.sh script dont work correctly. It never has.
I've used it with kubuntu karmic and it has never worked without a formatting before script. It says completed succesfully but the card wont boot. When I format the card with gparted to 4 partitions with the right format and boot flag it works.

2. solved -error was in the install script-

3. There are issues with installed programs. For example navit wont start without reinstalling it. And all the config files cannot be saved. ( I think, because some settings return to default when booted. )

4. I havent noticed if anyone has reported this but its quite annoying when connecting to wifi the config window shows the password. I would prefer ********. And also I cant get wpa connection to work at school but it works at home. If there is a simple way to change the mode of the password field, I'd like to know.

5. The tablet mode is still behaving a bit random. Sometimes when removing the keyboard it works like a charm but sometimes no reaction. The same with the on-screen keyboard appearing.

Some things sure work better in the new version and lots of bugs have disappeared. Still the screen blanking issue is present.

The screen blanking issue is huge. Nothing else should happen until this is fixed. I have a feeling it may not be so simple, perhaps its a hardware design flaw if there is so much noise effecting the blankout register ..

just tried to install the sd-card.gz and no go, but the only reason i wanted to do that is because i have no idea if the TB updater is doing ANYTHING! I attempted to update last night, at maybe 10 pm (eastern time) and the TB said it was "downloading and will notify me when it's done", yea that never happened. I waited over 1.5 HRS, so to pass the time i was browsing the internet, so i know that works and should have been downloading.

But honestly, how to you release the sd-card.gz in a non-working state!! This is ridiculous!!! Was this ever tested?! The instructions are very simple, down load and hit the start button, but the screen "fades" in from black to full white, then fades back to black, so now i have a $400 paper weight?! It is not worth releasing the sd-card.gz file if it does not work.

Just something i noticed, how is the 2009-09.c 481Mb and 2009-11.a 333Mb? Seems strange, i thought things were added to the OS, just something i noticed.

If any one has a suggestion how to get the new os on my TB it would be much appreciated, i will attempt to update via TB if i can get 2009-09.c to boot.

While we are waiting for the updater to get better, I suggest to try with linux. I was a linux-noob when I got my tb but now I have a double-booting computer.

I have succesfully installed the AIOS several times with a laptop running kubuntu live-cd, desktop running live-cd and usb-cardreader and both configurations running installed kubuntu. So if you're not afraid to test it, you should download a live-cd for example from here: http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu

But like I told at the upper post I had to format the sd-card with gparted to get the install-sd.sh script work. It says in the instructions that the installing could take long but my desktop runs the script in a few minutes.

The instructions for the script: http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/wiki/index.php/Reinstall_OS#Linux

I'm not defending AI for producing poor installers and so much "hidden" scripts and instructions but I sure dont want to have a 400$ paper weight.

Alexandre said here http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=393 that the reinstall process with the new os version is not possible under windows yet. You will have to install using a linux distro until a new windows updater is released.

yea, they released the sd-update.gz was last night, and it didn't work. The problem was they had not posted the .gz file until (1030pm last night)

Indeed. There was also a small thing wrong in the script, that has been fixed.

Everything should be fine now. Let us know if you experience some trouble.

Alex,

I just tried to install the sd card version of the os and it's still no good. The screen still turns on and goes white, then fades to black again. I looked and i'm not sure if you uploaded the new file , if i remember correctly the file that is up there was uploaded last night. Can you please upload the new version of the file with the corrected script?

Thanks
kborer

I loaded the new version on to my SD card overnight. My first impressions...
Screen blanking still occurs but it is more like a screen saver as far as I have seen. All you have to do is swipe the touch pad and the screen comes back. No more Fn-F7 (so far)
The network client still cannot validate my WPA passphrase. My router generates a 64 character phrase (random hex characters, 0-f) and the Touch Book gets stuck validating. If I set up a guest zone with a shorter passphrase (eg. 8 characters) the TB can connect. Also when you select a network and click connect the signal appears to drop out. This was very frustrating when I could not connect because I thought the signal was constantly dropping out. Once I was able to connect I realised that the signal indicator must be misleading.
Video performance seems a little better.
Touch screen seems a little more responsive.
I tried to install NTP using ipkg (I hadn't tried this in TBOS previously, only in ubuntu). I seemed to get it to install (ipkg update followed by ipkg install ntp) but when I tried to select it in the Time/Date settings it said it was not installed. Maybe after I reboot it will work.
Haven't tested much else, had to go to work.

glenhawk:
* screen "blanking": what you describe is actually an intended behavior to save power. The random screen blanking already described should not occur any more.
* wpa: did you get it work in the previous release (2009-09.c)?

kborer: the install script is now working (I tested it again a few hours ago). But as explained in the wiki, it's not totally plug-and-play and you have to deal with the command-line options (as an advanced user). Did you try to update the card with the windows updater instead (following the instructions on the wiki)?
