As an android developer I can tell you,the Samsung Galaxy Tab is moderately locked down, and development on it is almost dead, with so many new android tablets coming out soon. Here are some more mainstream android tablets with active development for us.
Notion Ink Adam- Attempting to install ubuntu on it now at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931214
Nook Color- Low processor specs, no Bluetooth for keyboard, only $250.
Lenovo Ideapad U1- Although priced at $1000, this runs Android on a Snapdragon with 512MB RAM, or Windows 7 on a Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM as a laptop. Extremely similar to Touchbook. Only time can tell if 'buntu can be installed via WUBI.
The Asus Tablets only run android, crippling them when attempting to create media.
The Motorola Xoom price point is predicted to fall as they gain popularity to undercut iPad sales. This can be evidenced at http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/16/motorola-makes-wifi-only-xoom-official-599-on-march-27th/
. Maybe these will improve with tablet-centric apps to make the purchase worth it.
Apparently i am not crazy for still waiting- with so many tablets coming out soon! What can we do?
