I'm looking at possibly buying the smartbook. I was wondering, if i were to purchase it today, when will start shipping it out.

I've ordered mine 7 Apr 2011. I've asked something to help desk about delivery times. That's the answer

Dear customer,

I have received word that we expect the Touch Book v2 and the Smart Book will be ready for release in the summer. Your order will ship then.

Best,

The ship date is the same as it has been for Duke Nuken Forever... "When it's done."

We hope it will be shipped faster than Duke has been.

It's really kind of disturbing now untransparent AI is about their shipping. It doesn't make me have trust in the company, and certainly the TB 1 wasn't a grand success...I've been following other gadgets that have ship dates slipping and the companies are really good about updating customers (see the Kartoz blog).

When was the last official ship date? I know people have gotten emails but are there any posts/tweets or anything? All I remember was somewhere, "at the end of this year" which is really weaselly since they can claim it's this year if it slips.

I want to feel good about buying this but I don't know if I can.

The only thing I can offer (and what made me feel better) is that they don't actually charge your credit card until they are about to ship. If they never ship, you'll never buy it. That together with the fact that they did eventually ship the TBv1 was enough for me.

Also,
I'm trying to play an order for the smartbook. I'm having a problem in that it doesn't recognize my mailing address as a valid address, even though it is. Thus, I cannot place in the order. If anyone knows what i't taking about, im open for suggestions.

So let me get this straight: The Smart Book was announced in September 2010. At that time the ETA was "before the end of 2010." We're now halfway through 2011 and the best guess AI will give us is "during the Summer", and that's only when someone contacts them. This is after they made a statement about being more transparent about delivery times because customers got fed up waiting for the Touch Book.

I love AI's ideas but they have proven they can't deliver on them. At one time I was pushing AI hard among friends who were looking at netbooks and iPads. Now I'll start directing them toward the Asus Transformer and Motorola Atrix. Those are real products that exist. The Smart Book is still a myth.

Not until 1 July, we're not! ;)

I don't think you'll find many arguing with you on that one.

I actually emailed them a week ago to get an update, since this is the only way to get information about them. In the past they've quickly responded to my questions but they haven't responded to that question yet. Does not bode well for this company. Has anyone else heard anything from them on the status? It is summer!
